My daughter is growing and needs clothes. So, time to make her a cotehardie. I started when she was fourteen. She is sixteen and it is perfectly appropriate for a young lady. She is excited. I let her help with some of the stitching. The patterning is based on the Medieval Tailor's Assistant's basic Kirtle with cloth buttons on the sleeves. Because the girl child is still growing (she is only 5'7" at 14), I chose to go with the simpler pattern and lacing in the front. To add a little bling The lacings are being done in gold Soie d'Alger, two strands to get the look.

To Do List

  • attach sleeves - Sleeves are too short... need to make a band with tippets to lengthen the sleeves. Dang, flooding from the water heater has caused use of my sewing room to be delayed for the time being. Check back later. DONE

  • do fittings and mark hem DONE (that was an adventure)

  • Hem DONE

  • Make fingerloop braid for lacing (Yeah, it will be long. Good mommy and me project).

  • Finish the embroidery

  • Take a photo and show it off. :-) She was able to wear it to an event, so DONE.

Here is the cotehardie currently with silk lacings and fabric buttons.

Camisa, because you are not putting lacings on a 14 year old without underclothes. Went simple linen, because I will be making several shifts.

Uh Oh, the sleeves are too short. I fed the kid and she is growing. Dang. However, the body is looking good.

Oops arms too short!

... So, just add tippets. OK, they aren't removable, but they work.

Still need to finish the embroidery on the neckline and get her a long enough lacing.
