This is a bag I made for Viscount Sir Heinrich von Melk, upon his stepdown as Prince of Cynagua. I was an Artisan for his Princess, Viscountess Else. The bag is made of linen with a 7 mesh cotton filet net darned in #8 pearl cotton. The color scheme is based on Heinrich's heraldic colors. Strips of filet net were used because a) I was looking for a use for some leftover net and b) the extant piece also has motifs patchworked on to the bag in strips. I used two of the motifs, but was limited by the size of the filet net available at the time.

Based on a 13th century reliquary pouch from Germany (Boston Museum of Fine Arts collection). Original was silk on linen Mesh with lines of different motifs.

Below is the inspiration for this bag.

A small table cloth with lacis. The Griffin is from a pattern in the 1587 edition of Vinciola. The mesh is commercial cotton 5 mesh inserted into a square of linen with handmade macrame fringe. Whole work linen stitch was used and stitched with #8 cotton pearl.

Gifted to Viscount Sir Seth MacAlpine, when he stepped down from serving as Prince of Cynagua.
